Sherrie's Healthy Homemade Chili
1- 1lb bag of organic full circle red kidney beans
Use quick soak or overnight soak directions on bag
Drain and rinse beans in a large soup pot
1- 20.8 oz package of Shady Brook Farms Ground Turkey
4-5 Stalks of celery- diced
1 Large onion (Spanish or Vadalia) diced
1/2 Green pepper- diced
1/8 Glove of garlic (use more if preferred)
Brown ground turkey with vegetables in a large skillet
Drain meat & vegetables and put into pot with beans
Add:
1- 28 oz can organic or regular diced tomatoes with juice
1- 28 oz can of stewed tomatoes cut up with juice, add to pot
1- 15-16 oz jar of medium salsa
1- 8 oz can of tomato sauce
16-20 oz purified water (filtered)
Large dash of black pepper
Small dash of chili powder
5 Fresh basil leaves- chopped
5 Fresh oregano leaves- chopped
Place on stove over medium heat for 3-4 hours until beans are tender and the juice boils down
Enjoy this healthy chili on a cold night with friends or family. Great game day meal for your hungry football fans. As a healthy side, try multigrain bread.
