Did you know that ASPARTAME ("Equal" or "Nutrasweet"), the primary sweetener in most diet sodas accounts for 75% of the adverse reactions to food additives?

Aspartame- Found in chewing gum, yogurt, energy bars, children’s Tylenol, PediaCare, store brand children’s fever reducer and pain relievers and Flintstone chewable vitamins. During digestion, Aspartame releases Aspartate, an excitatory neurotransmitter that easily crosses the blood brain barrier in children.  Hence, the prevalence of so many hyperactivity disorders seen today?  Read your labels and make sure you know what you are putting into your body!

Sucralose- Commonly known as SPLENDA, this sugar substitue is formed by a patented chemical reaction, actually a chlorination process.  Yes, Splenda has chloride in it!  Chloride is a component of bleach and pool chemicals.  Research has shown that 15% is absorbed by the digestive system and into fat cells.  Another toxin!  See subject on NuLean.com

Saccharin- This sugar substitute otherwise known as “SWEET & LOW” was discovered in 1879 at John Hopkins University.  Its claim to fame was its ability to sweeten foods without causing a glucose reaction. In 1977, a study suggested it was causing cancer in lab mice.  Recent studies claim that those results were inaccurate or exaggerated.  The Center for the Science in Public Interest (CSPI) maintains that saccharin should be considered a possible carcinogen and poses an intolerable risk to the public.

Agave- Made from the same plant as Tequila! Chemical processing results in a product that has a high fructose content that is nearly as bad for the body as high fructose corn syrup.  It is promoted as a “natural” sweetener.

Stevia- Considered to be the “Most Natural” of all low calorie sweeteners.  Derived from a plant in South America.  If you choose to go this route, be sure to get the all natural Stevia.
